Learn Spanish in a way that works for you

Virtual Spanish Tutoring could be your answer!

One of my clients is so very excited and proud of himself for being able to communicate with his in-laws!  He exhibits very little hesitation.

Over the years I have had countless college students come back to visit me, in order to tell me how so far advanced they are in their language studies, compared with others in their classes, because of the creative methods that I used in teaching them.

Gain the knowledge and confidence to speak Spanish with friends and family members or with native speakers when you travel!

I’m Helene!

I specialize in one-on-one tutoring, or meeting in small groups, currently on Zoom.

Unlike learning apps, I offer accountability in your learning and tailor lessons to your interests, providing relevancy that will motivate you to continue to higher levels of language learning.

“There are a lot of apps, books, and courses that promise to teach you Spanish.

They might even work if you have the discipline. But one-on-one tutoring has ensured that I stick with it. I’m more relaxed, willing to risk sounding silly, and just spoke to my niece for the first time in her native tongue. So pumped to keep learning with Ms. Hammer and I’m certain that I’m in this learning process for the long haul.”

How it works:

  • We start with a one-on-one conversation. I like to use conversation as a means to draw in new vocabulary and recycle prior knowledge and grammatical structures. I feel that it is extremely important to converse in a language, which is something lacking from most on-line programs.
  • I will assign a book and there will be homework each time.
  • You will work with a highly experienced person, who can give you instant feedback.

What you'll be learning

Throughout our lessons, I incorporate the four skills of language:

Speaking

Listening

Reading

Writing

Plus lessons about Spanish/Latin American culture!

A different kind of
language learning

I offer a fun learning experience, which includes rhymes, jingles, songs and other mnemonic devices for easy recall.

I am very accepting, patient and encouraging.

I do assign practice, because it is necessary.  You need to be using the Spanish or exposed to it by reading, listening to music or watching videos.  This is the way to progress!  You will feel excited as you understand more and more! Over time, you will  feel confident to use the language.

I love to see the transformation in my students, and the appreciation they espouse for the Spanish/Latin American culture, as well!

No, these are private lessons. If we are in a group situation though, and a student is absent, it may be recorded. I would seek approval of all in the group before proceeding, however.
